TNO has announced the launch of Perovion Technologies, a new company focused on industrialising lightweight, flexible perovskite solar cells. The launch builds on years of research into producing solar cells on thin foils.

Opening up new surfaces for solar energy

Flexible cells offer opportunities on surfaces where conventional glass-based panels can be too heavy or rigid, including lightweight roofs, façades and vehicles. Perovion is developing roll-to-roll manufacturing to make production scalable.

The company is working towards a production facility in the Netherlands planned for 2030. Its approach starts with applications that already have a clear need for flexible solar technology, working with industrial partners and module integrators to build towards a European manufacturing base.
